Purpose of the Organization

The Lodging Industry Investment Council© (LIIC©) is an industry think tank that provides a professional format for peer interaction on current hotel industry matters and subsequent dissemination of current hospitality industry investment trends to the hospitality community. LIIC© is an educational and networking organization consisting of prominent and diverse leaders within the lodging industry investment community that directly control billions of dollars of lodging real estate. As an active member of the Council, members have the opportunity to interact with others in the industry, express their opinions and share their knowledge in a focused think tank format. As a lodging industry think tank, results of the roundtable discussions are communicated to the industry through speeches, print media and the highly respected annual LIIC© Top Ten Survey.

History of the Organization

The Lodging Industry Investment Council (“LIIC”) traces its history to the early 1980’s. The Council originated in 1983 as the Feasibility Study Committee, an ad hoc committee of the American Hotel and Motel Association (“AH&MA”). At that time, it was the largest AH&MA committee. During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, the committee evolved to standing status and functioned as the AH&MA Committee on Market Research and Feasibility Studies. In the late 1990’s, the committee refocused its purpose and was renamed the Market, Financial and Investment Analysis Committee (“MFIAC”), while remaining a standing committee of the American Hotel and Motel Association. In 1998, MFIAC terminated its affiliation with the AH&MA, was renamed as the Lodging Industry Investment Council © (LIIC©) and began its role as an independent industry think tank. The committee’s membership currently consists of 70 high-profile, active senior executives in the lodging investment community who represent the major firms involved in the hotel real estate and finance arena and control well of $20 billion in hotel ownership.

When does the Organization meet?

LIIC© meetings are held three times per year in conjunction with the NYU, The Lodging Conference-Phoenix, and ALIS hotel investment conferences.
